CryptoCard Explorer

Feb 20, 2006 in General

Just thought I’d drop in a nod to CryptoCard Explorer, which is an application for my Pocket PC XDA IIs, which allows me to remember passwords, bank card numbers etc. It’s one of the few applications I’ve installed (out of hundreds over the last 6 months!) which I use literally every day.

LEGO Technic Difference Engine

I was wandering through slashdot today and found this quite frankly amazing LEGO Technic Difference Engine. It’s LEGO! And it’s a Babbage Difference Engine!

Remarkable.

Motion-cancelling bigfoot video

Jan 18, 2006 in General

Sadly I don’t know an awful lot about how this was done.  I guess they did it by judging the velocity vector v(t) of the bigfoot relative to static objects in the video, gluing all those vectors together into a line on a different plane then moving the entire video itself so a fixed point on the bigfoot’s body, for example his (/her?) hip, travels along that path.

However they did it, it looks even more like a bloke in a gorilla suit than it did before.  See the bigfoot walking here.

Green Pigs finally a reality

Jan 12, 2006 in General

Yes, I know we’ve been waiting years for them, but finally glowing green pigs are a reality! No longer will you have to search in the dark recesses of the fridge for bacon or ham.

Addressing consumers’ real pain points…

“Taiwan is not claiming a world first. Others have bred partially fluorescent pigs before. But the researchers insist the three pigs they have produced are better.”

How to remove O2′s nonsense from your XDA

Sep 15, 2005 in General

I just bought an XDA IIs, and it’s great. However, it’s slowed down and complicated by O2′s rather over-bearing customisation. Solution?

Found this at:

http://www.clieuk.co.uk/forum/printthread.php?t=1543&pp=40:

How to remove the o2 active icon

1. Press and holding the O2 icon brings up the slider. You can now move it along bar.

2. Or using File Explorer go to /windows/startup and delete the o2 active shortcut. Soft reset. O2 active is not started and icon is not shown. To restart it go to start, programs, o2 active and program fires up.

3. My prefered option. If you have an xda IIs… delete it. Easiest way is a hard reset. This wipes your xda of all data, so backup. During the hard reset, the xda asked personal or corporate user. Select corporate and enter 0506 as pin. Note you have only 5 seconds or less before xda defaults to personal. O2 active is not installed and xda will work much faster and freeze a lot less. Make sure your xda iis has latest rom from o2. You won’t believe the difference !

I went for option 3, and the XDA is MUCH cleaner and faster now.

Easy peasy!
